Forming Leaders for the Church
Malcolm recently sat down with Michael Ortiz, the executive director of ICETE (the International Council for Evangelical Theological Education), for a wide-ranging conversation on everything from formal theological education to Malcolm’s own spiritual journey — with a focus on what it looks like to shape well-built leaders for the future church. Malcolm has recently been featuring some excellent devotional and leadership writing from members of our teams in the nations. Here’s an excerpt from a piece by Sara, a wonderful woman of God from the Arabian Peninsula:
“I sit before Him – with no answers. No clear plan. No complete understanding. And without my old ability to run quickly into the next season. I simply look at Him. And I am learning a new thing with Jesus: To watch Him. Just to watch. And I am discovering that looking at Him is doing within me what all my attempts to fix myself could never do.
The longer I look… something begins to melt. Old impurities begin to dissolve. Chains I never knew existed begin to loosen. Inner bondages – hidden for years beneath beautiful names such as responsibility, strength, organization, control, achievement and knowing what needs to be done – begin to reveal themselves before His eyes. And this time, I am not fighting them. I simply sit before Him. And I allow His gaze to untie them.”
